A small family farm rooted on the edge of suburbia

We aim to make naturally grown flowers and responsibly raised food accessible to all families in our community.

About

Chesapeake Homestead officially put its roots down on the current farm in July 2018, but the dreaming and preparation began long before that. After meeting at a local dog park in 2014, we (Amy and Drew) began by growing a few tomatoes in containers and began seeking out ways to source local produce. We wanted to get closer to the source of our food and over the next several years, we became passionate about supporting local agriculture as well as local businesses in general. Our gardens remained small but grew mighty in containers on our deck while dreams and aspirations to eat meals grown/raised/crafted within 50 miles of us…or perhaps entirely by us took root and grew .

In 2017 we stumbled onto 7 acres of land while driving around one rainy afternoon. Moving wasn’t on our radar at the time, we sat and dreamed while our two young kids napped in the backseat. Little did we know, within a year, things would align for us to begin making those rainy day dreams a reality.

Since breaking ground in 2018, Chesapeake Homestead has become home to a modest flock of pasture poultry which provides both eggs and meat for the family, goats, and over 3,000 sqft of flower and food gardens. While we are not classified as an “organic” farm, we follow organic practices and utilize high quality non-gmo local Maryland feeds for our animals. No synthetic sprays, fertilizers or feeds are utilized on our farm. Animals are rotationally grazed around our property. We do apply a first till of new growing spaces to incorporate much needed nutrients and pH adjustments into the soil, but from there we are seeking out and applying practices that will help regenerate the land that had been vacant for so long before us.

Chesapeake Homestead LLC was born from the desire to bring others along with us on this journey of producing and consuming natural and responsibly raised products. The focus on flowers is driven by a long-forgotten joy and love that was awakened during Covid and something that Amy will continue to lean into and grow.
